Those thought processes often have nothing to do with financial performance. This is especially true for long-term investors. I have found a consistent link in the perception of the management team, including the board of directors. That is why what you do is so important. Concise and honest statements from the CEO build that confidence. Credentials of the board members leads to the faith that responsible people are making sure the proper people in charge of the company can be trusted to act in the best interest of the investors when considering an acquisition offer. Finally, establishing that link between the professionals doing the daily job of operating the company and the people at the top told in a few pictures in an annual report can make or break an investment decision based solely on trust. Obviously a few bad apples have badly damaged years of work for a lot of good companies and people. Keep doing what you do and maybe we can restore that confidence.
