LONDON, England, June 3, 1998.A monthly newsletter serving the annual report industry had reason to celebrate here today: Sid Cato’s Newsletter on Annual Reports, in existence since September 1983, will conclude its 15th year of publication with the August issue. Meantime, Editor/Publisher Sid Cato told a U.K. audience of 70 business executives of a two-fold milestone:
"Those milestones are doubly amazing," Cato told attendees at a day-long seminar sponsored by London-based Corporate Graphics International, "when you realize that half the businesses started last year, for instance, already have gone belly-up. Their founders have folded their tents and vacated the scene." Cato said that 16 years ago he was "inspired" to direct creation of computer programs enabling him to monitor annual reports. Within a year, he had added non-U.S. reports to his purview. "Each year," he said, "non-U.S. reports comprise roughly one in six reports reviewed." He said they come from "Pakistan and Poland, South Africa and Australia, from Sweden to Singapore, Japan to the Philippines." Soon, he said, "They’ll be emanating from the Czech Republic, no doubt China and Russia." Already he has authorized a Japan-language version of his monthly newsletter. |
