IT’S A ‘THREE-PEAT’ FOR AMERITECH
Chicago-based telecom produces perfect report a third time

KALAMAZOO, March 1. – For the third consecutive year, Chicago-based Ameritech has produced what Sid Cato calls "a perfect annual report to shareholders." This is Cato’s 17th year of monitoring the world’s annual reports. For the last 15, he has selected the world’s 10 best and 10 worst annuals for Chief Executive, magazine of corporate chieftains here and abroad.

"Never before," he said, "has any company matched" the telecom’s performance: "three straight years of turning out an annual report with a perfect score of 135 points, along with a positive rating of 100%," indicating it contains all three dozen elements that Cato says reflect on a report’s positive or negative nature.

His comments came in the March issue, No. 187, of his Newsletter on Annual Reports, which debuted in September 1983.

He said the 1998 Ameritech report has "everything an investor could desire," from 11-year financial data, fully captioned graphs (that is, their meaning explained), a letter believably written by CEO Richard C. Notebaert—"and, not least, detailed biographical data concerning officers as well as directors."
