KEY TO A WINNING ANNUAL REPORT?
It’s CEO Participation: Newsletter

KALAMAZOO, Nov. 1.—What it takes to produce an award-winning annual report, according to the man who rates them, is "solid CEO support."

Sid Cato, editor of his self-named Newsletter on Annual Reports, has made his 16th annual selections, for Chief Executive ("magazine by and for CEOs"), of the 10 best—and 10 worst—reports worldwide.

He noted that each of the chief executives of those reports named world’s best for the 1998 report year was "a stand-up-and-be-counted guy." Each wrote strong statements in support of the key corporate communiqué. Cato quoted several of them in the November issue—No. 195—of his long-running monthly publication, which monitors the corporate report industry worldwide.

He quoted Stephen Wetmore, president and CEO of a new entity, Aliant (formerly Bruncor), to the effect that he "is committed to upholding the tradition of excellence" established over the years by the Bruncor report. Bruncor was the only one of the 10 best to achieve a perfect, 100% rating, based on three dozen indicators of a report’s positive or negative nature. Selection of those to make the list of 10 best, and worst, will appear in the November issue of Chief Executive, due out within the week.
