RAVES ABOUT 'TRULY CREATIVE' SOUTHERN CO.

KALAMAZOO, Oct. 1, 2000.—Atlanta-based Southern Co.'s "truly creative" 1999 annual report is among those to achieve Top 10 status—for the fifth consecutive year. Two years earlier it achieved "world-class" status by scoring at least 100 of a potential 135 points, if not 10-best ranking.

Its status among the world's 10 best will appear in the November issue of Chief Executive, the 17th annual choices of contributing editor Sid Cato.

Cato, in his October Newsletter on Annual Reports—issue No. 206—hailed the Southern Co. report on Pg. 1 as one of the year's most creative—"truly so," he said.

He also revealed final facts in his 15th annual Producer Poll. He said four of five CEOs are said to be actively involved in preparation of the key corporate communiqué, though little more than half (56 percent) actually write their own letter to shareholders, in whole or in part.
